Frequently Asked Questions

Is it safe?

Yes! My Baby's Beat was developed in order to help you feel safe. Before using the app, switch to airplane mode to cut off transmission of all mobile/Internet communications.

Can I record my baby's heartbeat?

Yes. You can record you baby's heartbeat and listen to it later on, alone or with your friends.

Can I share my baby’s heartbeat recordings?

Yes, you can email the recordings from the Property screen.

How do I find my baby’s heartbeat?

Turn off all noise sources in your immediate environment (TV, music, etc), lay on your back comfortably, take the iPhone out of its case, and place it on your skin with the microphone facing your lower abdomen. The app has two modes of operation, regular and amplify. We recommend starting in regular mode, listening for 10 seconds, and then placing the iPhone on another part of your lower abdomen.

Does the app use any of the iPhone transmission capabilities (Wi-Fi, cellular, Bluetooth, GPS, etc)?

No! It only uses the microphone. The app does not use transmission capabilities of any kind, and we recommend switching to airplane mode so as to reassure yourself of that.

Why isn't the sound crystal clear?

Your fetus is surrounded by abdominal sounds, and although our app represents a significant technological achievement, there is still some noise that we cannot yet filter out.

Why can’t I find my baby’s heartbeat?

  • Did you take the iPhone out of its case?
  • Did you place the iPhone microphone correctly on your lower abdomen? Watch the tutorial on this page or on the app’s HELP screen.
  • Did you use a headset WITHOUT an embedded microphone?
  • Did you turn the iPhone’s volume to the maximum level?
  • Did you press the button on the main screen to enable the microphone?
  • Did you listen to your own heartbeat first?
  • Did you try several times at different hours of the day?

I tried your entire checklist and still no heartbeat!

The current version of the app supports the last trimester of pregnancy. As your pregnancy progresses, the sound will become clearer. Possible reasons for being unable to hear your baby's heartbeat include:

  • Fetus's location in the womb –
The baby's heart might be located far from the abdominal wall.
  • Placenta blocking the sound –
As your pregnancy progresses past the 30th week, this problem will probably pass.

What is Airplane mode?

Airplane mode disables the wireless features of iPhone to comply with airline regulations. While airplane mode is on, airplane icon appears in the status bar at the top of the screen. No phone, radio, Wi-Fi, or Bluetooth signals are emitted from iPhone and Global Positioning System (GPS) reception is turned off, disabling many of iPhone's features.
